Q: Can we schedule a tour of the venue before making a decision?
A: Absolutely! We encourage clients to schedule a personalized tour of our venue to explore the beautiful spaces and to discuss how we can bring your wedding vision to life. The only way to appreciate the serenity, privacy and scale of our venue is to see it in person. Nature takes center stage with the surrounding forests, choruses of birds singing and the dramatic ravines. And the island vibe can only be experienced in person as well. Q: What is the best way to reach Vashon Island, and how far is it from Sea-Tac Airport?
A: Vashon Island has no bridge. The easiest way to reach it is via Washington State Ferries or King County Water Taxi. Vashon Island is accessible by four ferries: 1. from West Seattle (Fauntleroy); 2. From Tacoma (Point Defiance); 3. from the Kitsap Peninsula (Southworth); and 4. from downtown Seattle (walk-on passengers only via King County Water Taxi). The sailings vary from 10-30 minutes. Ferry boats run once or twice every hour, and no reservations are needed. The route from Sea-Tac to Fauntleroy ferry dock is around 11 miles. It's a 20 minute drive; the route is relatively unaffected by rush hour traffic. See our Getting Here tab for more details.
Q: What do you recommend in case of rain?
A: Vashon Island is located in the Olympic rain shadow. So, often when it is raining in the Puget Sound area, it is not raining on Vashon. Since we are an outdoor space, in case of rain, we recommend clients rent tent(s). Tents are not included in the venue rental fee. For micro-weddings or small events, we have a charming hay barn that can accommodate groups of 40 or less. Or for smaller groups island vendors offer 20'x20' tent rentals starting at $500. But for larger groups we suggest checking the vast array of tents available through our partner rentals to find the perfect match for your event. Note: rental companies are full service; they deliver, erect the tents and break them down. Our venue offers multiple versatile spaces to locate your tent(s), providing you with the flexibility to choose the perfect setting for your special day. And we always allow vendors to set up tents one day prior to your rental period for everyone's convenience--at no additional charge.
Q: Are there accommodations available on Vashon Island for our guests?
A: Vashon Island offers many accommodations within a few miles of Foxglove Lodge, including waterfront cottages, charming bed and breakfasts, and entire houses. It's helpful to search airbnb on Vashon to understand how many rental options there are. We are happy to provide recommendations and to facilitate bookings with our partner lodgings. Our own lodgings can accommodate 12+ guests in beds. Our partner airbnbs located nearby can accommodate another 18 guests. In addition there are many good options within a three mile radius of Foxglove Lodge, largely in the darling waterfront neighborhood of Burton. And we are happy to discuss possibilities for an additional 30+ guests to stay onsite in a temporary Glamping Village. We can offer the perfect, shaded site.
Q: What catering options are available for our wedding reception?
A: You can choose any professional & licensed caterer you like. Note: there are many farm-to-table and vegan options on-island. Also on-island other options include: a mobile pizza oven, Syrian food, Mexican food, etc. And there are many off-island caterers accustomed to hosting on-island events. We have ample space, ample power (for example, 100 amps along the north edge of the Central Lawn), many electrical outlets, multiple dedicated circuits and access to water for caterers or food trucks. We have preferred catering partners who can create delicious menus tailored to your preferences. Whether you prefer a formal, sit-down dinner, a casual buffet or light bites, we'll support your professional caterer to provide the perfect dining experience.
Q: Is there parking available for our guests at the venue?
A: Yes, we provide ample on-site, free parking for your convenience. Our eight-acre, dedicated parking area is nearby, but not visible from the party venue. There is ample room for the largest buses or RVs. We supply parking attendants, included in every package.
Q: What accommodations do you offer for those with accessibility issues?
A: Guests with accessibility issues may be dropped off or picked up next to Foxglove Lodge. We also have designated VIP parking that shortens the walk from the parking area to the party venue for those who prefer a shorter distance of walking. There are no stairs at the party venue, and arrangements can be made for ADA bathrooms. We are happy to go over details on how we can help.
